Question
Dress Code
Diana
How would you describe the dress code for graduate assistants at your workplace?
A. Professional
B. Business Casual
C. Casual
D. Other (Text box with "explain")

How would you describe the dress code for full-time professionals at your workplace?
A. Professional
B. Business Casual
C. Casual
D. Other (Text box with "explain")

Should this question include an inquiry regarding dress code for the professional staff? Is their dress code the same as GA's. (Michele)

I added in a separate question for professional staff. I don't think I could ask it in one question unless I made it open-ended. This should give us a good comparison. (Diana)

Landon
Do you consider yourself more of a student or professional in your graduate assistantship?
A. Student only
B. Student mostly
C. Student and professional
D. Professional mostly
E. Professional only

How are you treated by your office staff?
A. Student only
B. Student mostly
C. Student and professional
D. Professional mostly
E. Professional only
How flexible your department is with your time/how much time is spent at graduate assistantship
Chrissy
On average, how many hours each week do you dedicate to your graduate course work (including attending classes, doing homework, etc.)?

On average, how many hours each week do you spend working at your graduate assistantship (including internships/practicums, attending meetings, planning for your job, etc.)?

I added internships/practicums in case someone was doing additional work outside of GA... Lindsay S
How your work is valued

A. Yes
B. No
C. Unsure

Community in your workspace
James
I was going to do one for community, but I am having problems deciding if I want to ask more of a question of:

how often they see other coworkers and if help is there if every needed (immediately or takes a few hours through email). (more of how comfortable they feel asking for help and the support)
OR
how often they collaborate with eachother and mingle (i.e. department meetings, lunch together, events outside of work, etc.)...(this is more of social question and development friendships beyond the experiences they share at work).

What do you all think between these two? Or do you have a different approach to the question about community?

The first question looks to be two questions, looking both at immediate contact with those in the office and immediate office resources. I like the first question, "How frequent of contact do you have with coworkers in your workplace?" You could use a 5 point Likert Scale on frequency of contact. (Landon)

I like the second question looking at outside of the office work interactions. You could use another 5 point Likert Scale on frequency of contact. "How frequent do you meet with your coworkers outside of the workplace?" (Landon)

I also like the second question about how often they meet together. (Diana)
I like the second question, but it should probably be turned into two separate questions. (Jen)
Choice of campus position
Lindsay B.
What is your graduate assistantship?

How would you describe your position?

What I want to look at is how the graduate students view themselves in their position - i.e. does the way they describe their position indicate a sense of pride in their work, or do they play down the language as though their paid work is less important than their course work? This could show us how high the morale is in positions that could be grouped in student activities, residential life, union board, career services, etc.
How the office views/works with students

Office space in comparison to full-time, professional staff
Jen
Compared to full-time professional staff in your department, do you feel you have adequate office space to conduct your work?
A. Yes
B. No
C. Not Applicable
Optional Comments: (text box)

Do you feel you have adequate equipment (such as a computer, phone line, software, etc.) to effectively conduct your work?
A. Yes
B. No
Please explain: (text box)
Salary/Benefits
Pat
Please choose your answer depending on what level you agree/disagree with the following statement. "In my graduate assistantship, I feel that I am adequately compensated for the work that I do."
A. Strongly Disagree
B. Disagree
C. Somewhat Disagree
D. Somewhat Agree
E. Agree
F. Strongly Agree

How important is Salary/Benefits in your decision in choosing an assistantship or job?
A. Extremely Important
B. Important
C. Somewhat Important
D. Somewhat NOT Important
E. NOT Important
F. Extremely NOT Important
(is this question misleading/double-edged because I put both in there? How do you feel about the scale?)

I think perhaps they shouldn't be lumped together. There could be students who care a lot more about the salary than the benefits, and vice versa. Could it be split into two questions? (Jen)

In my graduate assistantship, the following benefits are offered:
(mark all that apply)
A. Salary/Stipend
B. Medical
C. Dental
D. Tuition Remission
E. Professional Development Fund
F. Meal Plan
G. Living Accommodations

Can anyone think of any other benefits?
Physical/behavioral patterns
James
Do you feel the motto"One cohort, two campuses" truly exists within the culture of the HESA program?
(please circle one and briefly explain your response).
A. Agree
B. Disagree
C. Somewhat
Please explain: (text box)

I do feel this question may be a little misleading or pushy (by saying truly exists and starting the question with "DO YOU FEEL") I was also thinking of starting with the quote and then the question, like:
"One cohort, two campuses" do you feel this fits the culture of the HESA program?
Yes
No
Partially

Please explain: (text box)

What do you all think?

I like this question, but it seems to be more focused on the overall program, while our survey is focused on their GA workplace. (Diana)
Changing Assistantships
Lindsay S
If I wanted to change the assistantship I am working in while in the HESA program,
A. It would be difficult due to lack of availability
B. It would be difficult because of the potential conflict that may occur
C. It would be difficult because of the time involved in changing your assistantship
C. It would NOT be difficult to change assistantships
D. Other (Please Explain) (text box)

If anyone has better ideas on wording this question please help! LS
